Practice issues force the No. 9 of Colby Howard to miss qualifying at the site of his first Top-10 last season. I helped sponsor the No. 9 Chevrolet Silverado of Colby Howard at Daytona and being here in Mid-Ohio, I had to stop in and meet Colby in person. On top of shooting the breeze a bit, I spoke with Howard about what caused the team to miss qualifying Friday afternoon.
Colby told me that during practice, something came up under the 9 truck causing issues. It appears that something bounced and hit the drive shaft of his Grant County Mulch Chevrolet Silverado. When Colby brought the truck back to the attention of the 9 crew, they found a dent in the driveshaft. The crew worked diligently to change it out with the spare only to find that part had a dent as well. Per Colby, they went from team to team to see if anyone had a spare to no avail. The C7R Motorsports team had to go to the hauler to pull the driveshaft from the back up truck up above. For those of you who don't know or have never seen, that is a small, tight and HOT place on a early July day in the Mid-West. The team was able to get it removed from the back up and installed into the main truck. Colby Howard will roll off last in 36th. By: Tom Luttermoser Live from Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.

Tom Luttermoser"Being a NASCAR fan since the mid-90s, I've seen my sport go through immense changes, from Earnhardt to Gordon, Gordon to Johnson, Johnson to the "Big 3". Petty's 200 to Busch's 229*. I've seen 2 generations of racers and 4 generations of racecars. I've seen the peak of the sport, I've seen the loss of a legend. I can, in fact say.. This is the greatest time our sport has seen since its golden era and it will do nothing but grow from here. We talk about the Golden Era, The Modern Era. I think, We're entering the NEXT GEN Era."
