Per the Athletic's Jeff Gluck, former Penske Championship winning crew chief Todd Gordon will take the reigns of the #84 Legacy Motor Club Chevrolet for the select races driven by 7x Cup Champion Jimmie Johnson starting with the Daytona 500. Gordon spent the 2018 season atop the pit box of Joey Logano's #22 Ford, guiding the team to their first Cup Series Championship that season. Combine that with JJ and you've got 8 Series titles in the mix. Gordon is responsible for 21 of Joey Logano's Cup wins with 25 total atop the pit box.

On the Today Show Wednesday Morning, 7x Cup Champion Jimmie Johnson dropped some major news. In pursuit of his 84th career win, the 7x champ will compete in 10 Cup Series races in the updated "NEXT GEN" Cup car in 2023 including attempting to qualify for the Daytona 500 next month. But bringing the number back to the series for the fist time since 2011, Jimmie Johnson will run the #84 Chevrolet Camaro. Online auto retailer Carvana will follow Johnson from Indy to Cup and sponsor the 84 for the Daytona 500 despite the company's stock issues, showing that they clearly are still in the game. Carvana has supported Johnson's entire NNT IndyCar career over the last 2 year period. Johnson also revealed that there would be another MAJOR change over at PettyGMS, a name change. With 22 titles combined titles, they will now be the Legacy Motor Club. The font seen in the images below matches teammates Erik Jones's 43 car and Noah Gragson's 42. Image's Via: Legacy Motor Club |
Tom Luttermoser"Being a NASCAR fan since the mid-90s, I've seen my sport go through immense changes, from Earnhardt to Gordon, Gordon to Johnson, Johnson to the "Big 3". Petty's 200 to Busch's 229*. I've seen 2 generations of racers and 4 generations of racecars. I've seen the peak of the sport, I've seen the loss of a legend. I can, in fact say.. This is the greatest time our sport has seen since its golden era and it will do nothing but grow from here. We talk about the Golden Era, The Modern Era. I think, We're entering the NEXT GEN Era."
