Well as we all pretty much guessed yesterday, especially after canceling the entirety of their dirt events, North Wilkesboro is back. After their fantastic turnout at the Window World 125 on Aug. 31st, we all saw something bigger coming sooner rather than later. A few days later, they announced the track would cancel all of it's dirt events and I instantly assumed something was afoot. On Wednesday it was announced that there would be an announcement Thursday involving SMI, Dale Earnhardt Jr, NASCAR and N.C. Governor Ray Cooper at the North Carolina Museum of History. Instantly many of our minds went to some sort of NASCAR sanctioned event at the track within the next year. Many speculated an All-Star Race. Today (Thursday) NASCAR made it official, the track that hasn't seen a Cup event since 1996 will host the 2023 NASCAR All-Star Race, taking the event from the long fan hated Texas Motor Speedway. As of this publication, the official Press Conference has not yet occurred...... By: Tom Luttermoser Image Via: Fox: NASCAR
"What a disaster man." NASCAR has received some serious scrutiny after several cars have caught fire randomly over the last several weeks and it has been the drivers who have become more vocal about them. Most notably Kevin Harvick after his completely random fire this past weekend at Darlington. What started as a smaller fire on the right side of the car, Kevin stated there was also a fire that we as fans couldn't see, a far more terrifying one.. Inside the car coming from the dash. Harvick was himself when he got out of the car as well. He has not been quiet about this new race car when talking to the Press when I stood there listening to him talk to Clair B Lang at Michigan or even after with the Daytona rain issue. Sunday's Southern 500 fire was no exception. Kevin Was asked behind the wall, "Any Idea what led to that Kevin?" and he did not hold back with his response. "I'm sure it's just the crappy parts on the race car like we've seen so many times." NASCAR's Scott Miller says "We have to get to the bottom of it quick." And admitted that what happened to Kevin was unacceptable to the sanctioning body. But finally NASCAR has responded. As you can see in the images below, NASCAR has allowed several changes to be made to the cars including replacing a portion of the side panel of the car above the exhaust, the addition of a lateral seal to prevent tire debris from entering the underbody of the car and addition of fire proof coatings under the car as well. |
Tom Luttermoser"Being a NASCAR fan since the mid-90s, I've seen my sport go through immense changes, from Earnhardt to Gordon, Gordon to Johnson, Johnson to the "Big 3". Petty's 200 to Busch's 229*. I've seen 2 generations of racers and 4 generations of racecars. I've seen the peak of the sport, I've seen the loss of a legend. I can, in fact say.. This is the greatest time our sport has seen since its golden era and it will do nothing but grow from here. We talk about the Golden Era, The Modern Era. I think, We're entering the NEXT GEN Era."
