Malcom in the Middle star Frankie Muniz has a love for racing and has been looking to find ways to compete. Now 23 years after the show's debut, we hear in a Tweet from Fox Sports' Bob Pockrass that Frankie would compete full time in the ARCA Menards Series in 2023 for Rette Jones Racing out of Mooresville, North Carolina. Frankie told NASCAR.com in July that he didn't know how to become a race-car driver saying, "It's like saying you want to be an astronaut or something. To me, it's like a fantasy job for sure." On top of ARCA, he is also eyeing the Camping World Truck Series with a goal of one of the two Phoenix races. This hits home to me as when I was a kid, I grew up watching the show that made him a household name. Now, I cannot wait to watch him in NASCAR.

By: Tom Luttermoser June 2000 was the last time that the ARCA Series ran the high banked, quarter-mile race track less than 3 miles away from my last address. Just a few hours ago it was announced that the ARCA Menards Series East will return to Flat Rock Speedway in SE Michigan. The re-branded K&N Series East has only raced at the track once in the past. The May 20, 2023 event will be a 150 mile race with no competition caution breaks. Teams are able to use the infield figure-8 cross crossroad as pit road to make adjustments. Also running that day will be Flat Rock Speedway’s weekly “Motor City Mad Men” Figure-8 division & ARCA-sanctioned DTS Drivetrain Specialists Street Stock.
Big names such as Bob Keselowski (Michigan Native) & Jeremy Mayfield have won at the small Michigan track. Above image from the ARCA Archives: 1999 ARCA At Flat Rock |
Tom Luttermoser"Being a NASCAR fan since the mid-90s, I've seen my sport go through immense changes, from Earnhardt to Gordon, Gordon to Johnson, Johnson to the "Big 3". Petty's 200 to Busch's 229*. I've seen 2 generations of racers and 4 generations of racecars. I've seen the peak of the sport, I've seen the loss of a legend. I can, in fact say.. This is the greatest time our sport has seen since its golden era and it will do nothing but grow from here. We talk about the Golden Era, The Modern Era. I think, We're entering the NEXT GEN Era."
