The Return of the Road Course Ringer! Shane Van Gisbergen Wins in Chicago!

Before Project 91 from TrackHouse Racing, the Road Course Ringer was a term from back in the day. But last season with Kimi Raikkonen at the road course in Watkins Glen, that term came back.

Shane Van Gisbergen led 9 laps in what he referred to post race as, "My bread and butter, street circuits" while he impressed everyone all weekend long. Qualifying 3rd, Shane went and put on a clinic during the event driving through the field and, as Kyle Larson stated "Kicked our asses" (referring to the Full-time Cup guys). 

Toward the end of the race, Shane easily got past NASCAR's former Road Course king Chase Elliott and then made a dive to the inside of leader Justin Haley on lap 70 just as the yellow came out. On the restart, Shane made it a fairly easy pass on Haley although Haley dove in in the next corner to take the spot back, but only for a moment.

Shane held off a final restart after caution on Lap 75 to score his win with a charge from Haley, Elliott and Larson.
