It's been 11 years since the 2007 Formula 1 Champion has competed in NASCAR. Then, he did it for Kyle Busch Motorsports in the Truck and Nationwide (Xfinity) Series at Charlotte's 1.5 mile quad oval. He finished 15th in his first start in the #15 Toyota Tundra and 27th in the #87 Toyota Camry. But now, over a decade later... He returns. It was announced several months back that this seasons breakout new team, TrackHouse Racing, would field a 3rd entry for "International" drivers on road courses with "Project 91". On May 26th it was announced that 21 time Formula 1 winner Kimi Raikkonen would get behind the wheel of the #91 Chevrolet Camaro at Watkins Glen International. TrackHouse racing released the #91 and its livery and sponsorship on Monday showing a cool (icy?) blue techy look with primary funding coming from Recogni a maker of AI-Based visual interfaces for the auto industry and iLOQ, makers of energy harvesting technology. The ultimate goal of this 3rd TrackHouse entry is to bring international drivers into the stock car world on road courses and bring NASCAR to international eyes. When asked about the possibility of a 3rd FT entry, TrackHouse Co-Owner Justin Marks said it's not off the table, but not the idea behind Project 91 (I'm paraphrasing).

Tom Luttermoser"Being a NASCAR fan since the mid-90s, I've seen my sport go through immense changes, from Earnhardt to Gordon, Gordon to Johnson, Johnson to the "Big 3". Petty's 200 to Busch's 229*. I've seen 2 generations of racers and 4 generations of racecars. I've seen the peak of the sport, I've seen the loss of a legend. I can, in fact say.. This is the greatest time our sport has seen since its golden era and it will do nothing but grow from here. We talk about the Golden Era, The Modern Era. I think, We're entering the NEXT GEN Era."
