A few drivers had the short end of the stick in the early going of the Chicago Street Course. 4 Names come to mind of those who took a lot from what was seemingly a bad day. Chase ElliottChase smacked his No. 9 Hooters Chevrolet into the Loop coming off Michigan Avenue during Saturday's Cup Series qualifying. He came a bit too far to the inside of Turn 8 causing him to smack the outside of that wall netting him a qualifying spot of 26th. Chase would not score a single Stage Point, but would come back with strategy to finish P.3. Kyle BuschBusch buried his No. 8 3Chi Chevrolet into a tire barrier very early on in the race from mid-pack. but just about the halfway point, Busch was back in contention. Busch would also not score Stage Points, but a P.5 finish ended up a good points day for Rowdy. Justin HaleyJustin Haley DESTROYED his No. 31 Camaro during qualifying Saturday afternoon and the guy gets all the credit in the world from me. He stood with his crew helping to get his 31 back into shape all afternoon and morning long to make sure that car was ready to go for Sunday's Grant park 220. Justin had the best comeback of all 4 drivers on this list by not even posting a qualifying lap, starting last in 37th and then leading 23 laps to finish P.2 to Shane Van Gisbergen. Austin CindricAustin was another one who wrecked his car during qualifying. Posting a 31st place qualifying time, Austin would race his way back up through the field to score 0 stage points, but he did net a P.6 finish behind Kyle Busch.

Tom Luttermoser"Being a NASCAR fan since the mid-90s, I've seen my sport go through immense changes, from Earnhardt to Gordon, Gordon to Johnson, Johnson to the "Big 3". Petty's 200 to Busch's 229*. I've seen 2 generations of racers and 4 generations of racecars. I've seen the peak of the sport, I've seen the loss of a legend. I can, in fact say.. This is the greatest time our sport has seen since its golden era and it will do nothing but grow from here. We talk about the Golden Era, The Modern Era. I think, We're entering the NEXT GEN Era."
