Richard Childress Racing has been on a roll in the first 3 weekends of the 2023 season. RCR won the season opener Beef It's What's For Dinner 300 at Daytona followed by a win at the final Auto Club race in Fontana by the team's new Cup driver Kyle Busch, there's 2 for 2 weekends.
RCR's Xfinity Series leader, Austin Hill has had just as much of a hand in the early season dominance as anyone else. Winning back to back Daytona openers and then last night making a pass for the lead 100ft from the white flag over Rookie competitor Chandler Smith at Las Vegas. Hill only led 19 laps in Vegas this weekend, but he led the one that mattered. Hill also extended his points lead over Justin Allgaier to 21 points by scoring a total of 18 stage points and getting the Stage 2 win adding 5 Playoff points to his title hopes. Kaulig Racing's rookie Chandler Smith dominated the race in terms of leading 118 of 200 laps leading right up to the white flag, about a hundred feet. Austin Hill closed a 3+ second deficit in the last 10 laps to be able to make the pass for the lead with ease. Smith reported post race that his car got very tight in the closing laps of the race allowing Hill to close in in the first place. We have one more race to go this weekend with the Pennzoil 400 Cup Series race. Kyle Busch has been in contention at the end of both races this season so far. Cup teammate Austin Dillon has been right there with Busch in both events. Taken out while pushing Busch to a potential Daytona 500 win finishing 33rd and finishing P.9 at Auto Club. RCR has been on a roll, can they go 4 for 4 next weekend in Phoenix? By: Tom Luttermoser

Tom Luttermoser"Being a NASCAR fan since the mid-90s, I've seen my sport go through immense changes, from Earnhardt to Gordon, Gordon to Johnson, Johnson to the "Big 3". Petty's 200 to Busch's 229*. I've seen 2 generations of racers and 4 generations of racecars. I've seen the peak of the sport, I've seen the loss of a legend. I can, in fact say.. This is the greatest time our sport has seen since its golden era and it will do nothing but grow from here. We talk about the Golden Era, The Modern Era. I think, We're entering the NEXT GEN Era."
