By: Tom Luttermoser Above Image via: NASCAR First off, huge thanks' to Bozi Tatarevic (who I follow on Twitter and recommend you do as well) for confirming with NASCAR about a leaked document showing the official modifications to the rear clip for the 2023 Cup Series "NEXT GEN" car published by Road and Track. I highly recommend giving the article a read. Per NASCAR to Bozi, "Can confirm both - we sent an update to teams yesterday (Tuesday) with changes to the rear clips, center sections and rear bumper struts, and that NASCAR is covering the costs." NASCAR will remove and modify some of the tubing in the center section as well as the rear clip. (see images below). This process will start soon to be ready for the 2023 season with the teams beginning to send the chassis out. NASCAR will be paying for all of the costs including labor, leaving the teams responsible for nothing more than finish work such as repainting. The sanctioning body stated that supply chain issues are the key reasoning for the fix being pushed to 2023 instead of the remainder of the '22 season. *Rear clip shown above, left. Center section shown above, right. Red is being removed, Yellow is being modified to Green.
It appears that NASCAR will remove a total of 4 tube supports from the rear clip and center section as well as a change in materials used in the bumper sections (Shown below) and modifying the lower support (in green above) to allow greater crumpling in case of rear impact. NASCAR will also change the thickness of the bumper strut reinforcements. *More details will come in a later article as the finer points come public. *Check Images Below from NASCAR

Tom Luttermoser"Being a NASCAR fan since the mid-90s, I've seen my sport go through immense changes, from Earnhardt to Gordon, Gordon to Johnson, Johnson to the "Big 3". Petty's 200 to Busch's 229*. I've seen 2 generations of racers and 4 generations of racecars. I've seen the peak of the sport, I've seen the loss of a legend. I can, in fact say.. This is the greatest time our sport has seen since its golden era and it will do nothing but grow from here. We talk about the Golden Era, The Modern Era. I think, We're entering the NEXT GEN Era."
