My insider with Joe Gibbs Racing proved his knowledge of the internals a couple months ago when he told me that they planned to bring the #54 to the Cup Series for 2023 for Xfinity Series Champion Ty Gibbs. They told me that Ty Gibbs did not want to try to fill the massive shoes of exiting Kyle Busch in the #18 but wanted to build his own legacy in the Cup Series. But you all said I was nuts when I speculated that happening. It was expected that we would hear the driver lineup at JGR just after the end of the season, but the untimely passing of Co-Owner of JGR and father of young Ty, Coy Gibbs for obvious reasons pushed that back to Tuesday afternoon. Today, JGR announced that Ty will be moving to the Cup Series full-time in 2023 with the 18 team. As I said then, they will be re-branding the 18 into the #54 car with Ty's Xfinity crew chief Chris Gayle moving to Cup with him. Sponsorship is unknown but I assume that Monster Energy and Interstate Batteries will continue their support of the young Mr. Gibbs and Joe Gibbs Racing. JGR did also say that they do intend to use the #18 again in the future in the Cup Series, this is not goodbye forever to the original Iconic number. More information coming soon!

Tom Luttermoser"Being a NASCAR fan since the mid-90s, I've seen my sport go through immense changes, from Earnhardt to Gordon, Gordon to Johnson, Johnson to the "Big 3". Petty's 200 to Busch's 229*. I've seen 2 generations of racers and 4 generations of racecars. I've seen the peak of the sport, I've seen the loss of a legend. I can, in fact say.. This is the greatest time our sport has seen since its golden era and it will do nothing but grow from here. We talk about the Golden Era, The Modern Era. I think, We're entering the NEXT GEN Era."
