Portage, Michigan native Carson Hocevar will take another step up the racing ladder in his storied racing career. The 20-year-old will make his NASCAR Cup Series debut on June 4th at World Wide Technology Raceway, the same track that left him with a broken ankle in 2022. MADISON, IL-- The racing career of the 20-year-old racing phenom from Michigan, Carson Hocevar, has been well documented in multiple capacities over the course of the last few years as he has been giving race fans something to talk about since his breakout rookie campaign in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series in 2021. After several opportunities to close in on his first career win in both 2021 and 2022, the Michigander had come up short in nearly every way imaginable. On April 1, 2023, Hocevar finally captured his first career NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series win at Texas Motor Speedway, after only leading a single lap. He had made his NASCAR Xfinity Series debut just a week prior, however, just over a month later, Hocevar will make the biggest jump of his racing career.
Due to Chase Elliott’s suspension after his incident with Denny Hamlin after the Coca-Cola 600, Hendrick Motorsports tapped Spire Motorsports’ Cup Series driver, Corey LaJoie, to substitute in Elliott’s number 9 for Gateway. Hocevar was announced as LaJoie's substitute in the number 7 Schluter Systems Chevrolet Camaro for Spire Motorsports, becoming the fifth driver born in the 2000s to race at NASCAR’s highest level; Ty Gibbs and Chandler Smith were both born in 2002, and Harrison Burton and Todd Gilliland were both born in 2000. Hocevar’s NASCAR Cup Series debut will come at the same track in where he broke his ankle after a violent crash in 2022, an injury that had a 100% recovery timeline of 6-10 months and also prompted him to be on crutches the majority of the season, and even prompting him to miss one of the biggest races at his home track, Berlin Raceway’s Money in the Bank 150, on June 7, 2022, three days after the accident. It is no surprise as Hocevar has been one of the top drivers in the truck series in 2023 as he already has a win, four top-fives, and five top-tens after Charlotte. In both of his starts with Spire Motorsports (his debut was with SS-Greenlight Racing at COTA where he finished 38th due to transmission issues and Spire withdrew from Dover), he has finished in the top ten both times with a sixth place at Darlington and an eighth place at Charlotte. His superb driving could more than likely be traced back to the early days of his racing career, racing at Berlin Raceway in Marne, Michigan under the guidance of two-time NASCAR champion and Grand Rapids, Michigan native, Johnny Benson, Jr There are no more planned Cup Races for Hocevar, however, he will race in four more NASCAR Xfinity Series races, including his debut at his home track, Michigan International Speedway, on August 5th along with Nashville Superspeedway (June 24), Darlington Raceway (September 2), and Bristol Motor Speedway (September 15). Definitely a one-off deal given the circumstances, but it will be interesting to see how he does.

Tom Luttermoser"Being a NASCAR fan since the mid-90s, I've seen my sport go through immense changes, from Earnhardt to Gordon, Gordon to Johnson, Johnson to the "Big 3". Petty's 200 to Busch's 229*. I've seen 2 generations of racers and 4 generations of racecars. I've seen the peak of the sport, I've seen the loss of a legend. I can, in fact say.. This is the greatest time our sport has seen since its golden era and it will do nothing but grow from here. We talk about the Golden Era, The Modern Era. I think, We're entering the NEXT GEN Era."
