Denny Hamlin is without a doubt one of the best to have ever raced at Pocono, and his win Sunday cemented him into that dominance. ![]() Credit: LONG POND, PENNSYLVANIA - JULY 23: Denny Hamlin, driver of the #11 Mavis Tires & Brakes Toyota, lifts the HighPoint.com 400 trophy in victory lane after winning the NASCAR Cup Series HighPoint.com 400 at Pocono Raceway on July 23, 2023 in Long Pond, Pennsylvania. (Photo by Sean Gardner/Getty Images) Love him or hate him, Denny Hamlin is one of the greatest drivers in the sports history. Top-75 to be exact. But Denny has been especially good at Superspeedways... and Pocono Raceway. Last year, Denny Hamlin scored his 7th Pocono Victory only to be disqualified due to a film being placed under the wrap on the car's front fascia.
Fast forward a year and Hamlin led 9 laps to finally win again, scoring 3 major NASCAR milestones. 50 Career Cup Series Victories
By: Tom Luttermoser Justin Haley signs a multi-year deal to race for Rick Ware Racing starting in 2024 where he will become the team's first true full-time driver. Justin Haley has run for Kaulig Racing since going full-time Xfinity racing in 2019. Haley scored all 4 of his Xfinity Series wins with the team and also has a win in Cup during his rookie Xfinity season at Daytona racing for Spire Motorsports. But it appears that he needs a change of scenery, and a multi-year deal with Rick Ware Racing will do just that.
RWR partnered with the rebuilding of Roush Fenway Keselowski Racing for 2023 and has already begun to see some improvements in their performances. The car number and sponsors for Justin will be announced at a later date. "This is a unique opportunity that I look forward to. There are many key pieces of this program I believe can help me in taking the next steps in my NASCAR career. I look forward to working with our key partners , and many additional RWR partners to be announced soon. The alliance with RFK Racing is going to be pivotal for the future of our on-track success." -Justin said about the move. Rick Ware stated, "Having someone with Justin's talent and background become part of our future is a testament to our commitment to growth over the past few years." Justin Haley has been a key piece of the Kaulig Racing team since he joined the team in 2019, no word as of yet on replacement, but a source leads me to an active Xfinity Series winner. Ryan Vargas has been named Director of Team and Driver Development of the first ever German owned NASCAR team, 3F Racing. Vargas is also taking the mantle of the team's Cup Series reserve driver. Ryan Vargas is currently driving in the Craftsman Truck Series for On Point Motorsports where he made his debut at Atlanta in the spring. His most recent entry was the O'Reilly 150 at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. Ryan's best career finish in the series is P. 8 at Texas earlier this season in only his second start in a Truck. Vargas made his Xfinity Series debut for JD Motorsports at Iowa in 2019. He has made 3 attempts for CHK's Xfinity program earlier this season as well with all 3, unfortunately, ending with a DNQ. Vargas's best finish in the series is 6th at Daytona last year racing for JD Motorsports. The 22-Year-old California native and the upcoming German-owned Cup Series team have been seen working together in the past, Vargas was seen working with 3F Racing's development driver Christopher Tate at Florence Speedway last year. Vargas will run a Late Model for the team sometime this season at Hickory Motor Speedway and Ryan says that his new position will not interfere with his current Truck or Xfinity Duties. These 254 laps add up to a total of 1,170 laps led at New Hampshire, the most for any active driver.
Martin swept both stages and the race win to give him a race perfect 60 points in his hunt for the Regular Season Championship as well as the 2 Playoff Points bringing his total on the season to 18. 2020 Craftsman Truck Series Champion Sheldon Creed and Whelen are teaming up with Live Fast Motorsports to bring the Richard Childress Racing Xfinity Series regular to his Cup Series Debut at Kansas Speedway. Whelen Engineering has been a partner of Creed for a few years now, so it would only be right in the world if they funded his march up into the Cup Series. The RCR Xfinity regular is all but locked into the Xfinity Series Playoffs for 2023, so just as his teammate Austin Hill did in 2022 at MIS, Creed will get a debut at Kansas Speedway on Sept. 10th.
Creed is winless so far but has 20 Top-10s in his Xfinity Career with 6 Top-5s. In 2023, Creed sits 10th in the Points and 9th seed in the Playoffs. Creed will be the 4th different driver of the Live Fast No. 78 Camaro ZL1. The Live Fast Chevrolet's best finish of the season is 18th at the spring Talladega race with team co-owner B. J. McLeod behind the wheel. By :Tom Luttermoser Chase Elliott hasn't run an Xfinity Series race since the Indy Road Course in 2021 after DNQ'ing (Did Not Qualify) for Darlington last season. Hendrick Motorsports is adding him to the 2023 roster. Hendrick Motorsports No. 17 Xfinity entry has now entered 6 races, mostly road courses since coming back last season. Tuesday the team added 2020 Cup Series Champion Chase Elliott to their roster for the 2023 Xfinity Season. Originally not meant to be running in '23, Chase will field the No. 17 Hendrickcars.com Chevrolet at Pocono on Saturday, July 22nd.
Elliott has only run a single Xfinity Series race at the 2.5-mile triangle in the Pocono Mountains and came in runner up in the GMS No. 23 to Kyle Busch back in 2018. By: Tom Luttermoser We've all known for a while that Ross was near the top of the list for drivers Anheuser-Busch would replace the retiring Kevin Harvick as their sponsored driver. Anheuser-Busch will remain in NASCAR in 2024 but will be leaving Stewart-Haas Racing for TrackHouse Racing for the 2024 season. With the brand's Budweiser, Busch, and Busch Light, AB has sponsored Kevin Harvick since long before his SHR days and since day 1 with the team. They scored the title in 2014 in Harvick's first season with SHR.
Going into 2024, they will stick with Ross Chastain and the TrackHouse No. 1 team next year in what has got to be one of the worst secrets alongside Berry replacing Harvick. This will be a multi-year deal between the American beer giant and TrackHouse. A-B executive Krystyn Stowe will not confirm a watermelon beer, but "anything is on the table". Tom Luttermoser"Being a NASCAR fan since the mid-90s, I've seen my sport go through immense changes, from Earnhardt to Gordon, Gordon to Johnson, Johnson to the "Big 3". Petty's 200 to Busch's 229*. I've seen 2 generations of racers and 4 generations of racecars. I've seen the peak of the sport, I've seen the loss of a legend. I can, in fact say.. This is the greatest time our sport has seen since its golden era and it will do nothing but grow from here. We talk about the Golden Era, The Modern Era. I think, We're entering the NEXT GEN Era."
